As you may or may not know, I spend a lot of my time in the kitchen preparing the majority of my meals from scratch. This has inspired me to write about my 5 Must Have Kitchen Gadgets on a budget.
I think that I do this mainly because I like to know what is going in my food, with the added bonus that it works out cheaper and better for you.
The more fresh ingredients that you buy that are versatile such as vegetable and plain meats, the further it will stretch and be use-able for different meals.
I have been known to do a bit of meal planning and prep so that I have a few meals and lunches already made up and in the freezer for when we need them the most. This is great for those days when you are in a rush or just don’t feel like cooking. You can have meals that have similar ingredients ready and waiting to be popped in the oven or microwave.
Slimming world recipes feature a lot in my cooking as they can feed all of the family and are nutritious and filling. I have made a list of some of my favourites below, that are both inexpensive, delicious and go a long way.
Spag Bol or Chilli
Pizza with a Weight Watcher Wrap base
Cajun Spiced Chicken, Rice and Roasted Veg
These are just a few examples of foods that I like to eat, but there are so many more homemade meals that are inexpensive and feed multiple people.
One of our most recent discoveries is ‘dirty fries’. OMG they are to die for! I have managed to slot them in to my healthy eating plan and stretch them to feed the whole family.
I have decided to make a list of my most used and worthy kitchen gadgets that won’t break the bank, even if you are on a budget.
Potato Ricer – I used a normal masher for years until my partner suggested a potato ricer instead, now I would never go back! My mash is the creamiest that it has ever been and you can pick them up so cheap. A potato ricer will totally transform your meal. Try this one from Argos:-
Actifry – I love, love, LOVE my Actifry. While it looks old beaten up now, I have used it so many times for so many meals . I would need to replace it straight away if anything happened to it. Fingers crossed it still has some life in it yet. Use it for things like chips, wedges, chicken drumsticks, meatballs, cottage pie and much more.
Slow cooker – I think that this speaks for itself. It is so handy for when you lead a busy life. Switch it on in the morning and throw in anything that you like. We used it for amazing pulled pork, stew, soups, chicken and pie filling to name but a few. The list is endless.
Garlic Press – This is probably my most used. I add garlic to anything and with a garlic press, you don’t need to peel the garlic cloves as the garlic gets pressed through. Minimal effort for fresh garlic.
Steamer – Our steamer comes out a couple of times per week, for a Sunday roast and maybe one night in the week too. I love to meal prep, so will steam a load of veggies and divide them in to portions to take to work with some Chicken or Salmon.
So there you have 5 Must Have Kitchen Gadgets on a budget. I use these all the time and I find that they help me make the meals that I love to eat a lot more efficiently and on minimum budget.
